FINDING GLIMMERS - FEB 7, 2025
I recently read an article in the magazine The Simple Things, February issue. It was an article about "glimmers." According to Deb Dana, clinician an author, "Glimmers refer to small moments when our biology is in a place of connection, which cues our nervous system to feel safe or calm, rather than our automatic "fight or flight" response.
So, where do you find glimmers? First, you must be present. You must be open to looking for them. They are not great big experiences, but rather micro moments that trigger joy. Use your senses, sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. Each season you can find these small sensory jewels.
February, although the shortest month of the year, can be gray and cold. But it is a great month to look for those glimmers. The sun peaking through the clouds, or a bulb pushing its leaves up through the ground. The chirp of birds returning home, or the silence after a snowfall. The feeling of a cozy blanket resting on your lap, or the soothing feeling you get when petting your dog. The taste of a cup of hot chocolate smothered in whipped cream, or some homemade chicken soup as it touches your tongue . The smell of a wood burning, or the fragrance of a scented candle.
Open yourself up to look for glimmers in your world.
*feel free to share in the comments glimmers you have recently experienced!

Periodically I buy a small bag of bullseye caramels at Dollar Tree and always leave a few on my coworkers desk. She'll chat me on Teams thanking me and tells me they remind her of her Dad. Me too, me too my friend. It brings a smile to my face as we both remember our Dad's.
