RAINY DAYS AND WEDNESDAYS - FEB 12, 2025

What does one do on rainy days when traveling full-time in a motorhome?  Since we have the dogs with us, we rarely leave them behind so we can go and do "inside" things.  Rainy days are a good opportunity to slow down.  We read books, play games, watch nature outside our windows.  

Where we are now we've seen ducks and egrets on the Arkansas river.  The ducks seem to be migrating and we just love watching them fly in formation and then the long strings of ducks lagging behind.  Today, we also saw an Opossum.  Pretty sure it got rained out of its den. 🙁.  We played several rounds of Rack-o which is such an easy game for anyone to play.  We also play Chess, Backgammon, Battleship, Sorry, a few card games.  I recently started playing solitaire again, too.

I also took time to check out where we might want to head next.  We're just flipping a coin and heading where our hearts take us.

Since we have wi-fi, we can have movie nights!  Watch something we've never seen or something we've seen over & over, uh hum Shawshank Redemption, The 6th Sense, Goodfellas, The Godfather.  You get the idea.  Pop some popcorn, have a soda and relax and kick back.

If you're really ambitious, rainy days are also a good time to vacuum, scrub the floors, dust, clean out the refrigerator, scrub the stovetop, brush the dogs, and do an overall straightening up.  We keep our place neat and tidy.  You have to do that in small spaces, but a good thorough cleaning always feels good.

Tonight we're going to continue to watch a show that we'd never heard of, or seen before, "Yellowjackets."  We've only seen 2 episodes of the first season and it's pretty creepy so far.

Oh, you know what else you can do on rainy nights?  Have nightmares!

    Love the blog post title today! Love also that you shared what you do during everyday slower, quieter times in RV life. Looking forward to seeing where the coin toss takes you next time. Enjoy AR!

CLEAR SPRING - TEXARKANA, TX; CLEAR LAKE - PRINCETON, TX & LAKE MURRAY CAMPGROUND - ARDMORE, OK Between Feb. 20 and March 13 we traveled to Texarkana & Princeton Texas, and to  Ardmore, Oklahoma.   In Texarkana we stayed at Clear Spring Campground which is at Wright Patman Lake.  The park is beautiful.  Our site has a great view of the lake.  While in Texarkana we went to    Spring Lake Park.  There is a lovely lake to walk around and there are many ducks, geese & swans roaming about.  The park has playgrounds, a fenced dog park, and acres of wooded areas with picnic tables. We drove into downtown and saw the US Post office that sides on the border between Texas and Arkansas, walked around downtown and took pictures of multiple murals that adorn the sides of so many buildings.  Drove by the Ace of Clubs house, which is built in the shape of the Ace of Clubs. SHILOH NATIONAL MILITARY PARK - SHILOH, TENNESSEE - FEB 8, 2025

Yesterday, we drove to Shiloh, TN to visit Shiloh National Military Park.  The park commemorates the April 6-7, 1862, battle that raged around Shiloh Church and Pittsburg Landing. There were more than 23,000 casualties.  The battle was the largest engagement in the Mississippi Valley campaign during the Civil War.  Currently, the park has over 5,200 acres, and was established by Congress in  1894.  People often ask Steve and me why we visit Civil War sites, whether battle sites, historical buildings, or cemeteries.  The short answer is, "so we don't forget our American history."  We go to remind ourselves how many men, and women, gave their lives in the fight for freedom, freedom from slavery, and  whether slavery should be permitted to expand into the western territories, leading to more slave states.   We go to honor the dead, to remember that freedom isn't free.  We seek knowledge about our past, so that history is not destined to rep...

GRAND CANYON, WILLIAMS, AZ - APR 18-23, 2025

One of our most anticipated stops was the Grand Canyon.  We booked a stay at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park, in Williams, AZ.  It is a nice park with the train that runs from Williams up to the Grand Canyon.  There is also a hotel there.  Downtown Williams is just a short walk up the road from the hotel & RV park.  A quaint downtown with lots of shops. Drove up to the Grand Canyon, about an hour drive.  The anticipation was growing.  Once we walked the walkway up to the first viewpoint - I cried.  There are no words to explain the beauty, the massiveness, and the awe of the Grand Canyon.  I realize while there we only saw a portion of this beautiful place.  Hopefully, one day, we'll get to see more.  At the time we were there the North Entrances were still closed due to snow.
