ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO - MARCH 3-12, 2025
We were excited to get to Albuquerque, as we got to visit with our friend, and former dog sitter, Lin. Lin was wonderful with our dogs. She sat for us while we were in Ireland and took great care of Max, Apollo, Penny & Murphy. She even had to deal with our dear Max as his health declined while we were away. Unfortunately, he got so ill he had to be euthanized. We were fortunate that Tiffany was able to get to the vet and be with Max during his final moments. It was difficult for us to be away, but thankfully our fur babies were in great hands with Lin and we are forever grateful that she was with them during that difficult time.

While in Albuquerque we stayed at the Albuquerque KOA. It was a convenient location and close enough for us to visit with Lin and see some of the sights in Albuquerque.
We went to the Paseo del Bosque trail to take a walk and see the Pueblo MontaƱo Chainsaw Sculpture Garden. The trails cover 16 miles and through the heart of the city and along the Rio Grande. There was a wildfire in 2003, sparked by teenagers playing with fireworks. The fire spread over 250 acres. One of the fire fighters, Mark Chavez, who helped put out the fires looked over the charred husks of the cottonwood trees and decided to use his chainsaw carving skills to bring some beauty back into the park. Below are a few pictures of his carvings.

We were invited to Lin's home to have dinner with her sister and her. We spent hours catching up with each other. It was so nice to spend time with her again.
They invited us to go with them to the Petroglyphs National Monument and hike the Boca Negra Canyon trail. Dogs are allowed on this trail so we got to bring Lotte & Dixie, and Lin brought her dog Wish and her neighbors dog. The petroglyphs are indescribable. There are so many to look at, so I only included a few pictures of our favorites. There are other trails within the park, but they are not dog friendly, so we skipped those.
On another day we went to the Volcanoes Day Use Area to visit the Three Sisters Volcanoes.

Steve & I decided to walk the Vulcan Loop Trail. It was a moderate trail, and at times a bit tricky, but we survived. The dogs always enjoy the walks. We keep ourselves and the pups well hydrated. Albuquerque has many inactive volcanoes. They are very large sticking up out of the ground, but more like mounds across the landscape. The Three Sisters, along with other volcanoes in the area were the result of fissure eruptions. Magma rises along cracks in the earth's crust, rather than through a central vent.
There is plenty more to share of our time in Albuquerque and our day trip up to Sante Fe, New Mexico - keep your eyes peeled for the next installment.
Tally Ho!
