AMARILLO, TEXAS - March 21-28, 2025

AMARILLO, TEXAS (March 21-28, 2025)

We were in Amarillo, Texas for 8 nights.  We stayed at the Amarillo KOA.  We weren't very impressed simply because the KOA is just off the highway and is near trains, planes & automobiles. However, it was close to Route 66, trails, and various tourist attractions.  The employees at the KOA were very helpful and friendly.

While in Amarillo, we just HAD to visit a few of the "infamous" Route 66 sights.

During her career on the Santa Fe line, the Madam Queen ran for more than 1,750,000 miles

Slug Bug Ranch

If you are a fan of Yellowstone, you know who this is.
The cutout was in the General Store at the KOA.
I happen to have a t-shirt that reads, "Let's put the CRAZY away." ~ Rip
He and Beth were my favorite characters on the show.  I had to get the photo-op.

A metal Mariachi Band outside the General Store (they did have Mariachi music playing).

And a cute little metal cactus!

PALO DURO CANYON - Just 25 miles from downtown Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon is the most spectacular and scenic landscape feature in the Texas Panhandle. Second only to the Grand Canyon, Palo Duro Canyon was formed by millions of years of water erosion by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River and the West Texas wind.  It descends some 800 feet to the canyon floor and has more than 16 miles of paved road.

AMARILLO BOTANICAL GARDENS - We took a drive to Amarillo Botanical Gardens.  They are beautiful, and Dixie & Lotte were welcomed.  4 acres of gardens and art exhibits makes for a lovely day.  The weather was beautiful.

Next stop Tucumcari, New Mexico

Till then, Tally Ho
