RED BLUFF KOA JOURNEY, RED BLUFF, CA - JUNE 5-10, 2025

RED BLUFF KOA JOURNEY, RED BLUFF, CA - JUNE 5-10, 2025

Our next stop was Red Bluff, CA where we stayed at another KOA.  It was a very lovely place, well taken care of and lots of trees and water features.  The RV sites were paved and spacious.  Not too close to your neighbors.  Sometimes, we just need a break from being on the road, and even sightseeing.  It's nice to just sit back and relax, enjoy the weather and catch up on reading, playing board games, or just doing "nothing."

The KOAs have many amenities.  We can't always take advantage of all of them as we are still acclimating our dogs to being left alone in the motorhome.  It was easy when we had a house, they were comfortable there and leaving them alone was never an issue.  In the motorhome, there is a lot more activity with people and dogs walking by, and just the change of location/scenery.  We have left them for short periods of time to enjoy a dip in the pool, or check out the lounge areas.  As we continue to move along, we will continue to get them used to being by themselves for longer periods of time.  The main issue is, if they bark incessantly while we are gone, it can be cause for removal from the park.  That would not be good.

While in Red Bluff, our plan to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park.  Little did we know, the park would still be closed in early June due to snow.  They begin clearing the snow in April and road openings can stagger as the roads are cleared.  Historically, the roads typically open in late May.  They have opened as late as July.  This year, while in Red Bluff in early June, the roads were still closed.  While we didn't get there, here are some historical pictures of the area.

We did visit a local winery Tuscan Ridge Estate Winery in Red Bluff.  Tuscan Ridge is an adorable boutique winery and vineyard.  It is located on 5 acres and they grow Zinfandel and Syrah grapes.  They also partner with other vineyards in the Sierra foothills that grow other varieties of grapes that they use to craft their wines.  Their wines are very smooth with just a touch of oak.

They have a lovely outdoor seating area and we were allowed to have Lotte & Dixie sit with us.  We got to enjoy their Chardonnay, which isn't aged in oak but stainless steel.  It was crisp and we tasted fruity flavors of pear, pineapple and green apple.  It complemented our Caprese salad and Charcuterie board very well.  We also enjoyed a wood-fired Margarita Pizza.  Everything was delicious and it was an enjoyable day outside in the beautiful weather.

One of the "games" we like to play when we are tasting new wines is to NOT read the back label or any description of the wine that may be listed in their tasting menu.  We then use the 5 S's to See, Swirl, Sniff, Sip and Savor the wine.  It's fun to try and decipher exactly what we see, smell and taste.  We share our thoughts and afterward read the label or tasting menu to see how well we did.  It's a fun way to enjoy the wine while learning more about them.

Now, this may be getting redundant, but our next stop after Red Bluff is another Harvest Host location - Edenvale Winery in Medford, Oregon.  I know, it seems like we stop at a lot of breweries & wineries.  However, most Harvest Host location are just that - wineries, farms, breweries, and more!

See you next time from Medford Oregon as we continue our journey northward.  Tally Ho!
